Yongrui Packaging achieved a major technological breakthrough by developing fully plastic-free paper cups, which have now passed rigorous tests conducted by SGS, one of the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification companies.

It is the milestone certification of our company, that marks a complete break from the traditional plastic lamination widely used on conventional paper cups, delivering a fully plastic-free product and driving the green transition across the packaging sector.

The testing programme was carried out at SGS’s laboratory in Guangzhou. To ensure precision and credibility, technicians adopted four high-precision analytical techniques — FTIR, PGC-MS, GC-MS and EDX — to examine the cup’s outer layer, inner layer and calcined residues. All testing instruments were fully calibrated, and the whole process complied with international testing standards.

No plastic substances were detected across all key components of the samples. No characteristic plastic peaks were identified in FTIR and PGC-MS analyses, providing solid evidence that the new paper cups contain no plastic materials at all. The new design abandons plastic coating, the long-standing solution used by ordinary paper cups to achieve water resistance.

After times of research, trials, formula adjustments and process upgrades, the firm’s dedicated R&D team has overcome technical hurdles to launch the new eco-friendly cups. Made from natural paper materials, the products retain all practical functions of standard paper cups, while being fully recyclable and biodegradable with zero plastic pollution. They are suitable for catering, retail, office and beverage service scenarios, meeting market demand for sustainable packaging and aligning with national carbon reduction and plastic restriction policies.
